On January 12 of 2024, we began covering the brutal new regulation that US Service members PCSing or Deploying Overseas Can No Longer Store Vehicles, see original information here.
As of today, the U.S. military maintains a policy that generally does not provide storage services for the personal vehicles of service members. This policy applies across various branches, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, requiring service members to manage the storage or transportation of their vehicles during deployments or relocations.
Service members must find and arrange storage solutions for their vehicles, bearing the associated costs and logistics. In certain circumstances, such as Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders to specific overseas locations, the government may offer assistance or reimbursement for vehicle storage expenses, as outlined in the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR).
While some military bases may offer on-base storage facilities for rent, availability is often limited and comes at a cost. Consequently, many service members rely on private storage companies, family, or friends to store their vehicles during extended absences. As well as being advised for service members to maintain comprehensive insurance coverage on their vehicles while in storage to protect against damage, theft, or other unforeseen circumstances.
